RUTH MOLLMAN started drawing the faces of the West when she was just a child. Her fascination for the cowboy and his horse came from a love for her grandfather. He grew up with no parents on his uncle's ranch pushin' cows and riding the rodeo circuit to make a living. He was a quiet 'hero.' He knew hardship and never complained, knew glory and never boasted. These quiet 'heroes' of the West are those Ruth chooses to draw.
Ruth draws only in black and white, usually in graphite, to mirror the simple moments of life in the West. From the age of nineteen her work began to be noticed and continued demand from friends and supporters made it possible for her to begin producing limited edition of her drawings. She moved to Colorado in 1985 and started Mollman Studio in 1988. She is now an instructor of drawing at the local college and continues to draw the West in her own distinctive style.
