BERARD HOFMANN

BERARD HOFMANN started his art studies ih high school and at Trenton Junior College in New Jersey. I 1955 he entered the Franciscan Order at Staten Island, New York and continued his study of painting and drawing. Further art studies included classes at Catholic University in Washington, D. C., The National Academy of Design, NYC, and at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg, PA. During his years aas a Franciscan Friar Berard created covers for "Companion" magazine for five years in Toronto, taught high school in Pittsburgh, illustrated two books catalogued by the Library of Congress, assisted in sand casting reliefs for the St. Joseph Church, Hoboken, N. J. He also designed and painted large acrylic panels at Covenant House in New York City and designed the 24 x 5 foot sand-blasted, mirrored panels for "Seasons Restaurant" in Staten Island, New York.

Berard left the Franciscan Order and moved to Glenwood Springs in 1994 and has won recognition and numerous awards exhibiting with the Glenwood Springs Art Festival, Ouray Alpine Festival, Garfield County Fair, Montrose Visual Arts Show and the Black Canyon Of the Gunnison Art Show. His painting "Timeless" was chosen to grace the cover of the Fall Arts Festival catalog. Berard works in several media and he has been painting directly from life for the past eight years.

Berard Hofmann's work is held in private collections throughout the U. S., Canada, Switzerland and Costa Rica. He served as President of the Glenwood Springs Art Guild for 1996-1997.
